Change is gradual after sensitization of CBD&U issues in the community

Published Date: 02/13/2017

Summary:

Sarbajit B.K. aged-35, is residing with two sons and his wife at ward number-4 of Badabhairav VDC, Dailkeh district. He had been victim of CBD&U since his early childhood days. He was trying for eradication of this tradition in his community. Dalit community people were deprived form accessing services including their participation in local service sectors. HR education campaign and other solidarity and interaction program at community level have increased perception of people. He was involved as secretary for HRAA of Badabhairav VDC. Later on, he was able to get job as accountant in Shree Bhairav Secondary School.  Before there was no possibility of Dalit community people to get job in local level.

Challenges:

The people from Dalit community have been deprived of accessing public services in the community. Non-Dalit people in the community have objection in allowing similar services for Dalit in the community. Similarly, Dalit community people of Badabhairav VDC were suffering with same situation. Sarbajit B.K. has been facing discriminatory situation from his childhood. He hasn’t heard and seen anyone from Dalit community being involved in public service at local level.

Initiative:

NNDSWO Dailkeh conducted various activities with formation of HRAA and advocating at local level about human rights. Sarbajit was involved as secretary for HRAA of Badabhairav VDC. Later on, he was able to get job as accountant in Shree Bhairav Secondary School.  It was big achievement in community for a Dalit to get job at local school as accountant.

Results:

When seen today, he is happily getting involved as HRAA member as well as working in school as an accountant. He shared that this was possible all because of sensitization in community created by activities conducted under AAWAZ project and advocating against CBD&U for protection and promotion of rights of Dalit in the community.
