Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality comprises of a Mugu village and more than a dozen of villages in Karan; and this municipality spans to the area of 2106.91 sq. KM. As per myth Karnali river is named after Karan as one of the Sapta Karnali flows through Karan belt of Mugu. Dolpa is to the east, Humla to the west, Chhayanath Rara Municipality & China are to the North and Jumla is to the south of this rural municipality. This municipality is very rich in its flora fauna in Shey Phoksundo national park and its buffer zone. Natural resources like copper mine, iron mine and non-timber forest products which huge source of income through export.
