Out of 9 municipalities of Kalikot district, Palata rural municipality is one of the RM of the district. The total area occupied by the RM is 318.84 sq km. The rural municipality is divided into 9 wards. Jumla district lies in eastern part of the rural municipality while Bajura district including few parts of Pachaljharana RM lies touches its western part. Similarly, Mugu district lies in its northern border while Tilagupha municipality and few parts of Pachaljharna RM lies in south.
